North Warrnambool Eagles retain second spot with gutsy win

First-year mentor Jaime Barr and goal attack Skye Billings were pleased with how the Eagles soared past South Warrnambool to claim their seventh victory in nine games with a 47-37 win.

Barr praised her side for the way it worked together to secure the win.

"I thought we had to grind it out in the end as the first half was super, super close," she said.

"We just really managed to stick to the all things we're trying to work on and we got over the top in the end.

"I think that was the best four-quarter performance we have put together for the year and in particular our defensive pressure all over the court from attackers, defenders and midcourters."

Billings, who shot 23 of the team's 47 goals, said the win was the side's most complete effort.

"We got behind everybody and made sure if something didn't go our that we had each other's back and fought for it again," the side's assistant coach said.

Billings' twin sister Jordyn left the court late in the final term with a rolled ankle but she expects the defender to be right to play next week.

South Warrnambool coach Mandy van Rooy saw plenty of learning points in her side's defeat.

"We had a different line up without (star goalie) Eliza (Dwyer) in there so there were times when we played good netball," she said.

"But we let a couple of goals slip here and there and against a quality side.

"At the moment we are throwing away passes that we shouldn't be because of the pressure and we are having opportunities but we are not making use of them.

"So there is good things in that but we need to get that maturity to be able to stand up and make the most of those turnovers and score on them and then we can contest against these sides."
