Tributes flow for beloved father and son lifesavers who drowned at Port Campbell

The tight-knit Port Campbell community is in shock after the tragic passing of Ross and Andrew Powell.

Readers have taken to The Standard's Facebook page, posting touching tributes.

The pair were life-long members of the Port Campbell Surf Life Saving Club and were prominent figures in the local dairy farming industry.

Tania Luckin said they were two of the nicest people "you could have the pleasure of knowing".

"Our thoughts and sympathies are with Amber, Val and the entire Powell family," she wrote.

Ruth Olwyn said she was sending "all my love to the Port Campbell community and absolute love and condolences to the family".

"This will have a far reaching affect on many," she said.

Jodie Couch offered her sympathy to the family and the community.

"Such valued members who knew the ocean better than a lot," she said.

"Doing what they they have always loved doing, helping others. How grateful to have had these people in our community. R.I.P."

Barbara Kerr said it was "such a huge loss for Port Campbell community".

"Two wonderful men who gave their time to patrol our beaches," she said.

"Sincere sympathy to their families."

The third lifesaver was named as Port Campbell's CFA brigade captain Phil Younis.

He remained in The Alfred hospital on Sunday night with back and leg injuries.

Amber Griffiths, the partner of Andrew Powell, 32, posted a heartbreaking message on Facebook on Monday morning, farewelling "the love of my life".

"... light of my life, father of my baby girl. My heart is broken. I miss you Andrew Powell," she wrote.
