Herbert gathered 21 disposals and Rantall had 20 touches in Greater Western Victoria Rebels' come-from-behind 8.16 (64) to 9.9 (63) win against Geelong Falcons at Ballarat's Mars Stadium on Sunday.
The Hampden league duo, who played basketball for Australia at under-16 level together, returned to football full-time this year.
Their decision is paying off. Herbert was prolific against the Falcons, collecting 16 kicks and five handballs.
Rantall finished with 12 kicks, eight handballs and a goal.
Hamilton Kangaroos' James Cleaver, who is on the Rebels' lis as an overage player, booted two goals from 16 disposals.

The Rebels clawed their way back from a 21-point three-quarter-time deficit to hit the front through Darcy McEldrew late in the final term of a rain-impacted contest.
In the AFL, former Rebel Willem Drew backed up his promising debut game for Port Adelaide with a 24-disposal effort in the Power's 16-point round two win against Carlton on Saturday.
The Koroit export had 14 kicks and 10 handballs and laid five tackles in the match at Adelaide Oval.
His former Rebels teammate, Hugh McCluggage, helped Brisbane to a gutsy win over North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium on Sunday.
McCluggage also had 24 touches (16 kicks and eight handballs) and booted a goal in the Lions' 20-point victory.
Both players were drafted via the Hampden league in November 2016.
