Russells Creek medium-pacer Matthew Petherick was the match-winner in his team's Warrnambool and District semi-final victory against the Dennington Dogs with figures of 6-27.
But his six wicket haul wasn't the only outstanding part of his bowling effort, he also bowled 13 maidens including eight in a row.
The 23-year-old is hoping to bring that sort of form to the grand final against Brierly-Christ Church this weekend.
"It's what you strive for all year," he said.
"You turn up to training in July and you just want to get things done early and this is what we're in it for.
"It's going to be a good weekend, hopefully."
Petherick bowled 22 overs at D. W. Jones Oval last weekend and said that pitch was favourable to bowlers and a difficult one for batsmen.
"I was pretty glad to come away with some decent figures," he said.
"The pitch helped that's for sure.
"The way the game was poised, that was what Dennington needed.
"They needed blokes to stick around, and on a pitch like that, they probably did well to stick around for as long as they did that first night.
"The ball was doing so much."
His plan was to bowl a consistent length and he reaped the rewards.
"I just had to keep bowling at the same areas and hope batsmen would make mistakes," he said.
"Yeah it got a little bit boring at stages and got a bit chirpy out on the field.
"But the way the game was poised, they had to do that."
Despite his great figures, it wasn't his career-best.
In 2018, he took 6-10 against Merrivale when he was playing for Russells Creek.
Petherick grew up in Warrnambool and played in Russells Creek's two-day premiership win last season against Allansford.
That day he enjoyed figures of 3-25 off 23 overs, including 12 maidens.
Petherick is in his fourth year of teaching studies at Deakin University Warrnambool.
The Bulls and Creekers meet at Reid Oval from Saturday at 1pm for the eagerly anticipated decider.
Brierly-Christ Church beat Woodford to progress to the grand final.
On Wednesday night Brierly skipper Mark Murphy won division one cricketer of the year and Creekers captain Cameron Williams won wicketkeeper of the year.
