Earlier: Police and SES crews are conducting a search along the Merri River after a Warrnambool man failed to return home from a fishing trip Friday night.
The 25-year-old man had left his house about 4.45pm to go fishing at the Merri River weir which is located off Bromfield Street – just a 15 minute walk from his house.
Senior Constable Scott Lenehan, of Warrnambool police, said State Emergency Services along with police officers had been searching along the river for a number of hours trying to find the man.
Senior Constable Lenehan said the man’s partner last spoke to the man about 5.45pm who said he was on his way home.
Police said it was out of character for the man not to return home.
Senior Constable Lenehan said the man, Michael Godwin, was Caucasian, about 175cms tall and has dark hair.
He was wearing a black and red flannel top, dark jeans and work boots when he walked to the river to go fishing.
Anyone who may have seen the man is asked to contact police.
