NORTH WARRNAMBOOL Eagles export and AFL prospect Josh Corbett has received a welcome boost to his draft chances after being named the VFL's Fothergill-Round-Mitchell Medallist in Melbourne on Monday night.

The medal is awarded to the league’s most promising young talent aged 23 or younger that has the potential to take his game to the AFL.
Corbett joins an impressive list of current AFL players to win the award, including Bayley Fritsch, Luke Ryan, Nic Newman, Kane Lambert, Dean Towers, Michael Hibberd and Michael Barlow.
The 22-year-old forward, who booted 22 goals from nine games this season to earn an invite to the national AFL Draft Combine, missed the rest of Werribee’s games after round 12 when he was accidentally poked in the eye by an opponent.
Corbett told the club’s website he was “very honoured and humbled to receive the award” but that there was still work to do if he is to secure a spot at an AFL club in 2019.
“I thought with nine games, I’d be no chance of (winning), but at the end of the day, I’ve been lucky enough to walk home with an award,” he said.
“There’s never any guarantee with anything (getting drafted), so it’s just a matter of me putting my best foot forward, and if something presents itself, I’ll grab it with both hands and see how I go.
“It’s just a matter of getting myself as fit as I can. Hopefully the rest will take care of itself.”
