TALENTED Warrnambool hockey player Callum Bridge is not shying away from doing the hard yards in his quest to reach the top.

The 14-year-old goalkeeper spends almost as much time in the family car as he does on the hockey field.
He travels to Ballarat to train with the WestVic under 16 team on Monday nights and on Friday evening, makes the trip to either Ballarat or Melbourne to play for the team in the NW-Conference Shield competition.
He also trains and plays for his Warrnambool and District Hockey Association club team Technique.
There are also sessions to fit in with the South West Academy of Sport and to make each week a little busier, saxophone lessons.
The hectic schedule is one Callum happily embraces.
“It’s good fun, there is a lot of training but it is very rewarding,” Callum said.
“I love being a goalkeeper. A few years ago the team I was playing with didn’t have a goalkeeper so I put my hand up and really enjoyed it.

“The most important thing about being a goalkeeper is staying cool and calm and not overthinking it.”
Callum, who is in year 8 at Brauer College, has some big ambitions.
“I would love to one day make the national team as a goalkeeper, that would be my long-term aim,” he said.
