The Cobden export carried the Dockers’ ruck load in the absence of All-Australian Aaron Sandliands and Jon Griffin as they pushed the highly-fancied Cats to the final siren.
He was one of five Fremantle players to debut this year in the team, joining fellow first-gamer Josh Deluca, second-gamer Brennan Cox, third-gamer Luke Ryan and fifth-gamer Griffin Logue in the inexperienced Docker line-up.
The Dockers stunned the Cats, who lost inspirational skipper Joel Selwood to a head knock in the first two minutes, to build a 35-point lead in the second term.
Geelong pegged its way back to hit the front in the final quarter before Fremantle’s Michael Walters’ last-gasp shot went wide as the siren sounded.
Darcy arrived at the Dockers via pick 38 in the 2016 draft and recently inked a two-year contract extension, tying him to the club until the end of 2020.
