A CLOSE encounter with a tiger snake could have ended very differently for Cooriemungle’s Yolanda McVilly.

She was training for the upcoming Serra Terror at Moonlight Heads on the Great Ocean Road Walk with friend Annie Watson last Thursday.
“We’ve been doing that walk quite a bit lately,” Mrs McVilly said.
“Annie was walking in front of me. We were talking because had walked from Princetown and we only had 20 metres to go.”
Mrs McVilly got the fright of her life when she looked down at the track in front of her.
“I took a step and my shoe was about a foot from the head of the snake," she said.
“I did jump,” she laughed.
Mrs McVilly and her friend contemplated running in the opposite direction.
“We stopped and we were ready to run but he was so slow and we realised he wasn’t going to do anything."
Mrs McVilly captured the slithering reptile on film.
“I’m scared of snakes, just like anybody, but we saw that he wasn’t going to do anything – we didn’t feel threated at all,” he said.
“He didn’t even acknowledge us.
“He just wanted to get across the track.”
Mrs McVilly said the pair believed the snake was about two metres in length.
The encounter has not scared them off, with the pair returning the next day.
“We were looking out for him though,” Mrs McVilly said.
