The police came out on top in the annual Law vs Lore cricket match between Warrnambool police officers and the indigenous community.
The Sunday afternoon event at Allen Oval, now in its 11th year, had strong support from the community, with family and friends enjoying the barbecue lunch and a jumping castle for children.
Senior Constable Emily Durham said the annual match was close, but the police team won the Twenty20 contest by 20 runs, 195 to 175 runs.
“It was great with lots of friendly banter,” she said.
“Mostly the teams were sledging their own players rather than the opposite team, which was great fun.
“The Lore team came out swinging and definitely threatened the run tally from the police side early on, but we managed to slow them down at the end. I think it’s been pretty evenly matched over the 11 years.”
“There was family support and lots of kids, which made for a fun atmosphere.”
