On Sunday the champion left-arm paceman became the first Panthers’ player to reach 300 games.
He celebrated in style, West Warrnambool defeating Wesley-CBC and Johnson taking a wicket, the 452nd of his illustrious career.
Johnson has enjoyed plenty of team success along the way, playing in division one premierships in 2011-12 and 2013-14.
The 37-year-old is thrilled to notch up 300 games.
“It is a special felling to be the first to reach 300 for the club, it does mean a lot,” Johnson said.
“It was great to get messages from blokes like Stuart Bishop, Dean Hurford and my brother Leigh, I really looked up to them when I was coming through as a young player.”
It is a family affair at the top of the games tally at West Warrnambool with Leigh Johnson second in line with 296. For Simon Johnson, the desire to compete is still very strong after more than 20 years in the top grade.
“I still really enjoy playing, it is good to be able to contribute with a few wickets,” he said.
“I haven’t really thought ahead to next season, I will see how I am traveling when the time comes around.”
After missing the finals last season, West Warrnambool has made a strong start to 2015-16.
The Panthers have two wins from the opening three rounds and Johnson believes they are in the mix.
“It looks like being a really even competition, there doesn’t seem to be much between the teams,” Johnson said.
“We have six or seven bowlers who can take wickets and do the job with the ball.
“I think batting is our big strength, with Michael and Ben Threlfall and Ben Parker we have some real talent in the top order.”
Johnson’s milestone will be highlighted when West Warrnambool holds a special celebration for its 50th year next month.
