An unbeaten 54 from Bill Quinlivan was the highlight of a successful Brierly-Christ Church run chase. But it wasn’t all smooth sailing for the Bulls who had to recover from a poor start with the bat that had them in trouble at 2-4. Quinlivan and Jakob Stennett (27) steered the Bulls to a score of 4-102 from 13 overs.
The other negative to emerge from the game was an injury to Brierly-Christ Church captain Leigh Pollard who cracked two ribs after a dive while fielding in the opening overs went wrong.
All-rounder Nathan Murphy took over the leadership reins with Pollard heading to hospital.
Murphy said the win, the Bulls first for the season, was an impressive one.
“Last week even though we lost to Port Fairy it felt like we controlled 75 per cent of the game but we bowled a lot of wides which cost us,” Murphy said.
“We put it on the bowlers to turn that around this week and they were able to do that.
“With Jed Henderson we set the field straight and told him to pitch it up and he did that well and they hit a few straight down our throats.
“It was good to see Bill and Jakob do the job for us with the bat. We have a young team and our aim to keep on improving with each game.”
Allansford got its first win for the season when it successfully defended a score of 4-148 against Merrivale. Harrison Bond was the mainstay with the bat for the Gators with an unbeaten 62 at the top of the order. Sam Boyd did the damage with the ball taking 3-24 as the Tigers were restricted to 8-133 from their 20 overs.
Port Fairy remains undefeated after reeling in a big target set by West Warrnambool. The Panthers made 2-158 but a brilliant 98 from co-captain Aaron Williams meant the Pirates had seven balls to spare in their winning chase of 1-160.
An impressive 58 from youngster Brody Couch led Nirianda to a win over East Warrnambool-YCW. Nestles and Woodford remain unbeaten after wins over Russells Creek and Dennington.
