Australian Christians candidate Lillian Len and independent candidate Rod van de Hoef were surprise eleventh-hour entrants for South West Coast ahead of the October 31 poll.
Mr van de Hoef said he entered the race to raise awareness over planning matters, while Ms Len was unable to be contacted. Mr van de Hoef, a Warrnambool engineer, said his by-election candidacy was motivated by frustration over government bureaucracy.
Meanwhile, Australian Christians candidate Geoff Rogers, Australian Sex Party candidate Meredith Doig, Democratic Labour candidate Carmel Kavanagh and independent candidate Brendan Eckel have all entered the race for the Polwarth constituency.
Mr Rogers said his party entered both by-elections to raise the minor party’s profile in the region.
