The NSW country town with a population of 2000 came to a standstill on Friday to honour home-grown Hockeyroos stars Kellie White and Emily Smith with a street parade.
Shop windows were draped in green and gold and fans wore specially-designed Hockeyroos shirts with the players' names on the back from the sports store owned by former Raiders player Mick Picker.
The Hockeyroos needed a goal with just 15 seconds left to keep the final against England alive before they prevailed 3-1 in the penalty shootout.
White said she was blown away by the support from the people of Crookwell and said they played an important part in their success.
"It is really overwhelming,'' White said.
''Everyone is so excited, there are some tears flowing. To be able to give back to the community is a wonderful feeling.
''It (the gold medal) is as much theirs as it is ours.''
White and Smith moved to Perth in 2011, where the national hockey program is based, and debuted for the Hockeyroos that year.
However, White suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her knee soon after and was forced to miss the 2012 London Olympic Games.
"I'll never get 2012 back, but I've gained so much strength from being able to work my way back into the national team,'' she said.
''I've used it as motivation in getting my fitness back, all the work in the gym and the touch on the hockey field.
''Winning the gold at the Commonwealth Games is going to spur everyone on for the next 12 months and then on to Rio after that when we're working towards Olympic gold.''
Smith said being a Commonwealth Games gold medallist was ''starting to sink in'' and that it was ''very nerve-racking'' when the Hockeyroos trailed 1-0 with less than 30 seconds left.
"A couple of us thought it was all over, but I knew when we got that penalty corner that Jodie (Kenny) was a good chance,'' Smith said.
''We'll have a couple weeks off the sticks, but we will still be doing fitness training and gym work to stay in shape ahead of the Champions Trophy at the end of November.
"We'll go back to Perth and refocus our goals, but we would definitely like to be in contention for the gold at the Olympics in 2016.''
The pair will have six weeks off at Christmas to return to Crookwell.
