WDCA officials say they have the right to use Warrnambool’s premier ground for one of their grand finals, in light of a scheduling clash.
TAC Cup officials have fixtured a North Ballarat Rebels-Geelong Falcons football match at Reid Oval on March 30.
But WDCA chairman Nick Frampton said AFL Victoria had not applied to use the ground during cricket season, as is state government legislation.
The scheduling clash became an issue after the WDCA last week allocated two “reserve days” for its grand finals — a backflip on bylaw 11.8.1.
The grand finals are down for March 22 and 23, with March 29 and 30 set aside as the reserve days.
The Standard reported on Saturday the ruling meant WDCA grand finals were unlikely to be at Reid Oval, Allansford or Dennington, due to football fixturing.
But only the WDFNL has received permission to use Allansford and Dennington for football.
AFL Victoria is unlikely to receive the green light to stage the Rebels-Falcons match.
The WDCA board initially did not believe the match would cause a problem, given only one reserve day was in place for its grand finals.
But the addition of a second means AFL Victoria will potentially have to relocate the match, with Reid Oval an option to host a cricket decider.
Frampton said cricket retained the right to use the ground until March 31.
