When Warrnambool lost its telephone and internet services due to a fire at the city's telephone exchange early Thursday morning, the staff at Ballarat's Optus city centre shop had no idea they'd be run off their feet by Saturday afternoon.
A Bridge Mall Optus Shop employee told a staffer from The Standard yesterday that a large number of Warrnambool business representatives had been into the store on Saturday to purchase mobile internet modems that would allow them to connect to the internet via Optus.
"We've got none left," the employee said in response to a request for a mobile modem about noon yesterday.
When the employee was told the modem was to be taken back to Warrnambool, he said the shop had sold out by Saturday afternoon with most customers from Warrnambool.
The store was able to rustle up a previous generation modem for the staffer .
