A south-west abalone farm manager credits the region’s unspoilt coastal environment with some of the success of the booming business.

Yumbah Aquaculture Narrawong general manager Tim Rudge said staff were working hard as global demand for abalone in countries such as Japan, Canada and the United States grew.
He said the business had a “fantastic year”.
“The cool waters of the Southern Ocean are what give life to our business,” Mr Rudge said.
“We’re in some of the most beautiful sites in the country with unprecedented water quality, which makes our jobs easier.”
Mr Rudge said the green-lipped abalone species produced by the company was sought after due to its quality. The company has four locations along Australia’s southern coast and is the largest abalone exporter in the southern hemisphere.
The Narrawong operation, which employs 20 people, was recognised in the agribusiness category at the state government-run Victoria Export Awards.
